ARTWORK OF THE WEEK This map from 1532, titled Typus Cosmographicus Universalis, illuminates what a map of the world looked like to Europeans 500 years ago. The illustrations, attributed to German artist Hans Holbein the Elder, combine the fanciful and real. Sea monsters and mermaids populate the oceans, as does a contemporary sailing ship. This map is on view for the first time at the DAM as part of "Stampede: Animals in Art." Learn more about this incredible piece of the DAM's collection, recently gifted to the museum by the Berger Collection Educational Trust: http://bit.ly/2FQtxsZ Typus Cosmographicus Universalis, 1532. Ink on paper, 16-5/8 x 24-5/8 in. The Berger Collection at the Denver Art Museum, TL-19561

Review: Curious Theatre's challenging "Intelligent Homosexual's Guide" is a three-plus hour intellectual trial
The cacophony of angry voices is a hammer to the head in Tony Kushner's play at Denver's Curious Theatre. Then there's the literal hammering. And the annoying clapping. Sometimes all at once. Angry shouting, hammering, clapping. The result is a three-act, 3 1/2 hour endurance test, a bombardment of words...

#Whiskywednesday feat. Balvenie 21 year Portwood: The Balvenie Distillery describes this expression as: To create The Balvenie PortWood 21 year old single malt whisky, a marriage of rare Balvenie is transferred to port casks, or pipes, which have held fine port wines. Here it is sampled regularly by The Balvenie Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE to ensure that just the right amount of character is imparted by the port casks, enhancing and developing the single malt whilst preserving its original characteristics. Considered by many to be David’s finest creation, this whisky is one of his proudest achievements and has won an array of highly coveted industry awards since its release in 1996. TASTING NOTES NOSE A perfume of fruity and ripe raisin notes, backed by a nutty dryness. TASTE Refined with remarkable character, it is creamy and silky with fruit, honey and spice notes. FINISH Long, gentle, nutty. @denverartmuseum @goldentriangleofdenver @visitdenver #Whiskywednesday #denvergastrobrewpub #singlemaltwhisky #balvenie21portwood #highlands #portfinish #caskconditionedales

Don't miss this month's Untitled Final Friday with contemporary fiber and performance artist Steven Frost! Next Friday, March 30, from 6-10pm, Frost's creative takeover at the DAM will explore “Material Frequency” with hands-on artmaking and creative explorations of textile and electronic arts, such as an innovative textile-making hand loom connected to a Toyota vehicle in the museum lobby. FUN FACT: Toyota’s founder Sakichi Toyoda was the inventor of a patented Toyoda wooden hand loom in 1891 and a power loom in 1896! More on Untitled Final Friday: http://bit.ly/2Hv2ws7 Untitled Final Fridays are presented by Your 6 Hometown Toyota Stores.

Steven Frost A little like Audrey Hepburn and little bit like Bruce Wayne
DAM: If you could express yourself in any other medium, what would it be? SF: I tend to dive into new mediums if they fit a concept I'm working with so there are not a lot of things I haven't tried but I would love to be a trained dancer.

Harnessing the power of #MeToo, History Colorado creates first-ever Women’s History museum

And the Byers-Evans House Museum — Evans’ meticulously preserved brick home at West 13th Avenue and Bannock Street, and the seed for the surrounding cultural complex that includes most of her beloved institutions — continues pumping out inspiration with the new Center for Colorado Women’s History.

Harnessing the power of #MeToo, History Colorado creates first-ever Women's History museum
Nobody called it #MeToo in Anne Evans' day, but her fearless, pioneering spirit would have fit right in with that digital media-driven, social-justice movement.

Review: The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide Is Hard, Rewarding Work

The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism With a Key to the Scriptures, presented by Curious Theatre Company through April 15, 1080 Acoma Street, 303-623-0524, curioustheatre.org.

Review: The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide Is Hard, Rewarding Work
The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism With a Key to the Scriptures is one huge, nourishing and gut-punching wallop of an evening. Author Tony Kushner's brilliant Angels in America is even longer at roughly seven hours, but most companies show it in two parts.
