HERE ARE 8 NEW PUBLIC ART PROJECTS COMING TO DENVER THIS YEAR! With the hopes of increasing public safety, rejuvenating public spaces, inspiring innovating thinking and fostering community interaction, the eight projects cover a big footprint across Denver. From South Yuma to Commons Park and east along Colfax Avenue, these projects will be highly visible and sometimes interactive, to encourage even more engagement with the public. Walk Denver: on various sites along Colfax Avenue, Walk Denver will work together with community members who have been impacted by traffic deaths, advocacy groups and artists to instigate dialogue about the safety of pedestrians in Denver. Well-known Denver street artist Pat Milbery will paint a large-scale mural to envision the goals of Vision Zero and will work with East High School students to create stencils and street signs for areas that community members feel need improvement. https://303magazine.com/2018/01/new-public-art-denver-2018/

Our condolences to our local neighborhood D.A.V. Chapter in the passing of their Senior Vice Commander, George Parrish. Many of you have driven by the Disabled American Veterans D.A.V. building at 8720 East Colfax Avenue and not known much about the organization. The building also houses many nonprofits including the Burma Rangers, Street Fraternity and House of Purpose Church among others. Clyde Seiler Chapter 21 was chartered in Aurora, CO in 1973. The Chapter was named in honor of Major Clyde Seiler a member of the Colorado National Guard who was killed in action on March 27, 1969 when the F-100 aircraft he was piloting was shot down over Vietnam. The Chapter operated at various locations in Aurora until 1993 when the Chapter purchased the current site at 8720 E Colfax Ave., Denver, CO. In February 2011 a fire seriously damaged the building; however, after extensive repairs and remodeling we rededicated the building in January 2012 enabling us to continue our support of DAV's mission of assisting disabled veterans and their families. The Chapter's membership is approximately 1,800 and the Chapter is supported by an active Auxiliary Unit. Chapter 21 is an active organization with many members supporting their time and efforts toward veterans activities throughout the Denver metro area. The Chapter is the third largest in state and has donated thousands of dollars to veterans and civic causes. The Chapter co-hosts the hospitality room at the annual Department Convention and has had members serving in Department positions including Commander. We host an annual Chapter picnic and Christmas parties for children and adults and the Chapter and Auxiliary support numerous programs either individually or jointly which benefit veterans. Individuals should contact the Chapter office between 12 noon and 4:00 pm weekdays to learn more about Chapter 21. https://m.facebook.com/DAV-Clyde-Seiler-Chapter-21 http://www.davmembersportal.org/chapters/co/21/default.aspx dav21co@gmail.com

Denver council members pool leftover office budgets to provide lawyers for some renters facing eviction
Ten Denver City Council members on Thursday took the unusual step of pooling money to help launch a new housing program - one that had faced resistance from Mayor Michael Hancock. The council members say they will use the $123,600 raised to work with a nonprofit called Colorado Legal Services to start a pilot program providing lawyers for low-income renters to fight evictions.
