Why RTD Created the L Line, Which Opened Sunday

The L line follows a 1.7-mile route between the 16th Street Mall stations and 30th and Downing, with trains coming every 15 minutes until about 7:30 pm when frequency falls to 30 minutes.

    The D Line doesn't serve Five Points anymore, but you can still get there on the "new" L Line, which began service on Sunday. Why split the old D service in two? RTD says it will improve reliability, especially downtown.

RTD light rail line launching Sunday to boost service downtown and improve systemwide on-time performance, officials say

After Sunday’s launch, the D-Line will end at the 18th and Stout Station while the L-Line will cover the 1.7 miles between that station and the 30th and Downing station, with trains doing a turnaround loop through the heart of downtown Denver along Stout, Welton and 14th streets.

After Sunday’s launch, the D-Line will end at the 18th and Stout Station while the L-Line will cover the 1.7 miles between that station and the 30th and Downing station, with trains doing a turnaround loop through the heart of downtown Denver along Stout, Welton and 14th streets.

“It’s a move in the right direction, but we can’t lose sight of connecting to 38th and Blake,” she said.

4:37 p.m.: RTD confirms a suspicious package was found on a train. It was reported to RTD about 4:25 p.m. A bus is shuttling light rail passengers from from 20th to 30th and Downing.

6:16 p.m.: Denver Police gave the "all clear" after a report of a suspicious package left on a light rail train at the 16th and Stout station. Police say the item was determined to not be dangerous. Traffic and pedestrian closures will be lifted soon.

Eyes on the Street: Flashing Pedestrian Signals in Sloan’s Lake, Regis, Congress Park, Stapleton, Hilltop

Back in May, Denver Public Works installed a “rapid flashing beacon” at 30th and Downing. The signals are meant to get drivers to yield to people walking and using wheelchairs, and they’re now up and running at five more crosswalks around the city.
