Affordable for whom? Why area median income matters for Denver's housing projects - Denverite
Affordable housing projects in Denver are not always actually affordable for everyone struggling with home costs in the city. Most of the projects dubbed "affordable" underway in the city are actually being targeted toward residents who make about 60 percent of the area median income - $32,580 for a single-person household or $45,360 for a family of three.

Pupusas are to El Salvador as tacos are to Me...

Pupusas are to El Salvador as tacos are to Mexico; El Chalate on East Colfax makes some of the best we’ve tasted. The thick corn masa discs, amply filled with creamy white cheese, “ayote” (squash), or chicharrón—or a combo—are crisp in places on the outside, tender and chewy within. Served with oregano-flecked “curtido” (pickled cabbage and carrots) and mild red salsa, it’s a perfect taste of El Salvador. 8119 E. New Barbecue Joint Will Take Over Solera Space
Chef Goose Sorensen is ending his sixteen-year run with Solera at the end of next month, but he's not too sad about it. "I couldn't be more thrilled," he told us earlier in the week when we talked to him about the closure. "I didn't want to be fifty years...

Works from Target and IKEA Counterpath, 7935 ...

Works from Target and IKEA Counterpath, 7935 East 14th Avenue February 24 through March 15 Opening Reception: Saturday, February 24, 7 to 10 p.m. Counterpath is hiding a fundraiser inside of a clever exhibit, by inviting friends of the gallery/event space to donate pieces of generic artwork bought at Target and IKEA, along with a 100-word explanation of the art and why it was chosen. The works will be priced at a 150 percent markup, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the original owner — minus a 50 percent contribution. It’s a win/win situation that also slyly makes a point about the state of the commercial art world. Donated works will be accepted right up until Saturday evening (e-mail first to make sure someone is there). Plus, bonus: Counterpath will concurrently be hosting free readings by poet Linda Norton and novelist/essayist John Cotter on the same evening. http://www.westword.com/arts/gallery-openings-and-art-exhibits-in-denver-february-21-to-24-10010518

Six Arty Things to Do and See This Week in Denver
Whether or not the sun comes back out this weekend, you can still give in to the elements and get out to explore art. You'll find it indoors near the steamy tropical conservatory at the Denver Botanic Gardens, at art galleries on every level, at studio open houses and even at a literary reading.

Denver's family neighborhoods are increasingly to the east - Denverite
When it comes to Denver's family neighborhoods, we know two things for sure: where families live now and where they lived before. Easy. What's difficult is predicting where they'll be even five years from now.

New permanent housing complex near Colfax now home for Denver homeless
DENVER - One of the state's biggest issues is finding housing for the chronically homeless. Currently, there's an estimated 5,000 homeless people living on metro area streets. Although Colorado's homeless population rose four percent in 2017, Denver's overall homeless numbers fell more than three percent.
