It’s Time to Make The Base Load Review Act History

South Carolinians, take notice. The Base Load Review Act allowed SCE&G to charge us some of the highest electricity rates in the southeast for the construction of V.C. Summer- an abandoned, unfinished nuclear power plant that will never produce power. SCE&G was able to raise our rates 9 times in less than 10 years, including a full year and a half after knowing the doomed fate of the nuclear project. So far, SCE&G parent company SCANA’s shareholders received $529 million of the $2 billion paid by SCE&G customers for V.C. Summer.

Studying Relationship Between Ulcer Medications and Dementia

Proton pump inhibitors, or PPIs, are a class of drugs that treat acid reflux and peptic ulcers. The three most commonly prescribed PPIs are omeprazole, pantoprazole and esomeprazole. In recent years, some studies reported that PPIs increase risk for dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. We hear patients asking questions about this issue, so I’d like to clarify what we currently know about this risk.

Organic Fruit Picked at the Peak of Freshness...

Organic Fruit Picked at the Peak of Freshness Colorado's Only Certified Organic, Fourth Generation Orchard Hello everyone, It feels like summer is here!. Hot days, irrigating, thinning, and mowing are all sure signs we are into the summer cycle. While harvest is still a ways off, the fruit is growing bigger by the day. It amazes me how quickly peaches can grow from pin head size to walnut size. Given that rapid change, I want to let you know how the crop looks and what is happening on the farm. To start with, tomorrow is the last day to purchase our CSA shares for this season (in actuality, we won't get them taken off the website until Monday, so you will get a couple extra days for last minute signups). CSA's allow you to buy a share now, and then during the main fruit season, you get a selection of our fruit each week. Our website (www.elafamilyfarms.com) gives you all the details of how this works. Some of our customers love stopping by the stand and picking up their share, others love to shop a la carte and not get a set delivery. Either way, we love seeing you all at the markets. With the exception of cherries and plums, our fruit crop looks good this year. We ran the gauntlet of spring frosts, but peaches, pears and apples came through in mostly good shape. They were certainly thinned, and there are some lighter spots or varieties, but overall it is nice to see fruit on the trees. The cherries and plums took a couple of frosts a bit more seriously - we will have very few, if any, cherries at the markets this year. Plums are variable - Shiro's and Italians look good and the Fortune and Elephant Hearts are very thin. In between, with light crops, are Santa Rosa and Black Amber. We will have some plums, just not bunches.

    Home - Ela Family Farms
Summer is here and wow it's getting hot fast! CSA signups are closing soon - you've got till June 15. Even though frosts got our cherries this year, we are looking forward to bringing you scrumptious Shiro and Italian plums, all kinds of peaches, a good crop of lots and lots of apple varieties, and a solid pear crop.
