    Two residents died last week. One person had been on Hospice. Her tiny body had struggled to push her walker from her apartment to the dining room, laden with a container of oxygen, from which two plastic tubes entered her nostrils, filling her damaged lungs with life's needed air.

RAISE Act Offers Support for Wyoming’s Caregivers

AARP welcomes this week’s passage in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives of the bipartisan Recognize, Assist, Include, Support, and Engage (RAISE) Family Caregivers Act. The legislation requires the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to develop a strategy to support the nation’s 40 million family caregivers. The bill now heads to the President’s desk for his signature.

AARP Iowa working to pass CARE Act in 2018

In 2018, AARP Iowa is again working with lawmakers, advocates, volunteers and members to urge passage of the Caregiver Advise, Record and Enable (CARE) Act, a commonsense policy that increases information, education and support for Iowa’s more than 317,000 family caregivers. A 2015 survey found that 50 percent of Iowa caregivers are left out of hospital discussions about patient care and receive little or no instruction about tasks they will have to perform, such as wound are and medication management, at home after the patient is discharged.

The North Building’s ceremonial groundbreaking took place yesterday. Speakers included Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Board Chairman and lead donors Lanny and Sharon Martin, as well as former Board Chairman Tom Congdon and Jorge Silvetti. John Emhoolah of the Kiowa and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma conducted a project blessing, and special performances were presented by the Alpine Brass and Drone Dispatch in collaboration with artists Jennifer Ghormley and Pam Fortner. The project is slated for completion by the building’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
