Let's show our Villa Park Photo Voice Have you heard about the Vision Zero Photovoice Project on Federal Boulevard? The Photovoice Project is a FREE month-long photography workshop focused on Federal Boulevard and the surrounding neighborhoods. Anyone who lives, works, shops, or plays in the Federal Boulevard area is invited to apply for the workshop. We'd love your help in getting the word out to your networks and contacts in West Denver! We are looking for 17 participants who want to learn how to use photos and videos to tell their story about their experiences on and around the corridor. We want to hear from local residents, businesses, and employees who know Federal best. The workshop will guide participants in taking photos that illustrate their experiences navigating Federal Boulevard, in turn informing the city about ways the corridor is working well and opportunities to make it safer and more welcoming. Applications are due March 24! Participants will be provided with laptops during the four sessions that will be theirs to keep if they complete the program, as well as a $25 Visa gift card for every session they attend! No photography experience is required and we will offer food, childcare, and translation services at every session. We are currently working on getting the attached flyer and application translated into Spanish, Vietnamese, and Somali and will send out those materials as soon as possible. Project partners include Denver Department of Public Health & Environment, Denver Public Works, Denver Technology Services, WalkDenver, and the University of Denver. Lots more info: http://bit.ly/VZ-photovoice-info Online application: http://bit.ly/VZ-photovoice-apply

How a fire that decimated downtown Denver in the 1800s led to the city's 'brick ordinance'
DENVER - A deadly fire that destroyed an apartment building under construction near downtown Denver this week might not have happened if an old city ordinance were still on the books today. Denver's so-called "brick ordinance" requiring fire-resistant buildings was enacted in reaction to a large fire that wiped out a huge portion of the city's downtown business district in the 1800s.

Let's be heard! 5:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library, 1498 Irving St. "On the other end of the spectrum are the quiet, stable single-family neighborhoods that have been most resistant to denser development. Those might land in a category currently dubbed “enrich” — a delicate way of saying that residents might be open to light redevelopment that provides more diversity of income, education and housing stock, such as backyard cottages or townhomes on busy corners. But they don’t want huge changes.

Latest version of Denver's Blueprint plan recognizes that not all neighborhood change is created equal
Denver's latest stab at guiding development and land use for the next decade or two in the growth-fatigued city has added even more complexity to an evolving plan. City officials are proposing four classifications to promote varying degrees of change or stability, neighborhood by neighborhood, as part of the updated "Blueprint Denver" plan.

Volunteer or Share with a neighbor who may need this, and may not be on social media. Brother’s Redevelopment Inc. is eagerly anticipating the 40th Annual Paint-A-Thon this year and we need your help. The Paint-A-Thon is a program that has utilized volunteers to paint the exterior of 7,250 homes over its history, each one absolutely FREE OF CHARGE to qualifying senior citizen and disabled homeowners. We need your help in getting the word out to deserving senior citizen or disabled homeowners who are 60 or over, live in a 1 or 1.5 story home, are living on a fixed income, and whose home is in need of exterior painting. As an advocate for the elderly in your neighborhood, you can help us by nominating a senior citizen in need of this service. Some of our most rewarding volunteer projects have been when we facilitate a neighborhood volunteer team to paint the home of one of their own neighborhood residents in need. If you would like to see a short video about the Paint-A-Thon volunteer experience, please click here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCSI-pREsyQ

    The Paint-A-Thon Volunteer Experience
The Paint-A-Thon is a great way to take a day and get to know your coworkers, friends, and family, all while serving a deserving client. Not only are you afforded the opportunity to see the incredible transformation of someone's home, you will also help restore hope to our incredible clients.Help change lives.

Villa Park Neighborhood added an event.

Attend a Blueprint Denver workshop to learn more, weigh in Denverites have called for a more inclusive city with strong and authentic neighborhoods. To achieve that, we must move beyond Denver’s “areas of change” and “areas of stability” model, established in 2002. Based on your input in Denveright’s Blueprint Denver planning effort, city planners are working on a new approach to managing land use in our city. The new concept acknowledges that all places in our city are constantly evolving in pursuit of becoming complete in their own way — not just through enabling or limiting development, but through quality-of-life infrastructure like safe sidewalks, housing options, transit access, parks and open space. Diversity, affordability and good urban design/architecture are key to complete neighborhoods as well. Denver will continue to grow and change. Through Denveright citywide planning, we have the opportunity to make sure these changes benefit everyone. Regional centers and corridors would take on the most growth, while the remainder of Denver’s places would evolve in smaller ways. Ensuring the proper scale and intensity for all places — and appropriate transitions between residential areas and other places — are key to livability. Come to one of several Blueprint Denver workshops in February and March to learn more about potential strategies for land use and transportation in your neighborhood and citywide.
