Sloan's Lake Neighborhood Association welcome...

Sloan's Lake Neighborhood Association welcomes both new and old West Colfax and Sloan's Lake residents who are concerned about quality of life issues: traffic, adequate parks and open space, maintenance and improvements for Sloan's Lake Park and contextual zoning. The following article is primarily about the drastic changes that have occurred in our neighborhood over the past several years.

The scraping of Denver: bye-bye bungalows; hello townhomes, duplexes and mansions (depending on neighborhood) - BusinessDen
On one stretch of West 13 th Street a block south of West Colfax Avenue, every street for 10 blocks has had at least one lot scraped and developed in the last three years. That puts the West Colfax neighborhood, where rows of townhomes are replacing 100-year-old bungalows, near the top for scrapes competing with hot spots in Sunnyside and East Wash Park.

UPDATE ON SLOAN'S LAKE SOFT SURFACE TRAIL; RE...

UPDATE ON SLOAN'S LAKE SOFT SURFACE TRAIL; REMOVAL OF 40 TREES We have been advised that there has been an update to the plan currently on the Parks & Recreation Website and shown below. The new and current plan does NOT call for the removal of ANY trees from the Park. SLNA has requested that a new updated plan be posted on the Website and still plans on having a Parks & Recreation representative present at the August 16 SLNA meeting to address the final plan for the Trail and address concerns about the safety of the trees during construction. Although we had advocated for and been involved in the planning of the Sloan’s Lake Soft Surface Trail (Running Trail), it has come to the attention of SLNA that the preferred alignment of of the Trail will require cutting down more than 40 mature trees from the canopy along 17th Avenue. It is our understanding that Parks and Recreation proposed doing the same thing, cutting down trees at Washington Park, before the neighborhood rejected their plan and required them to come up with a more creative design. SLNA will be addressing the issue of the removal of these trees and alternatives at an August 16 meeting.

NEXT WITH KYLE CLARK - Hidden among the utility poles and streetlights in Denver, you might spot some of the city's new cell towers. Unlike the typical cell towers that stand hundreds of feet tall, these green poles are less than 40 feet.
