Eyes on the Street: Denver Public Works Tests Traffic-Calming on 26th Avenue

Denver Public Works crews just installed pedestrian islands at two intersections with a lot of foot traffic: 26th Avenue and Tennyson Street near Sloan’s Lake Park, and 26th and King Street near Brown Elementary School.

These treatments come in addition to new crossing beacons at 26th and Newton, which DPW installed earlier this year.

Denver Public Works crews just installed pedestrian islands at two intersections with a lot of foot traffic: 26th Avenue and Tennyson Street near Sloan's Lake Park, and 26th and King Street near Brown Elementary School. Both projects are quick, low-cost treatments that make a big difference for people trying to cross a street that has mostly been ceded to speeding drivers.

Hi Sloan's Lake! I wanted to drop a note and make sure you are all familiar with the Denver Citizen Oversight Board (COB). The COB practices civilian oversight—an ever-evolving field designed to provide communities with a voice in how law enforcement is conducted. We were voted into the City Charter last year, no doubt with much of your help. Under the Charter, the COB is authorized to make policy recommendations to the Denver Police Department and Denver Sheriff Department. We just launched a Facebook page, because we're hoping to hear more from the community. We hope you'll follow it and share your thoughts on policing, incarceration, and oversight in Denver. We welcome your voices at our bi-weekly board meetings and our quarterly public forums.
