Like many other of Denver's original neighborhoods, Sunnyside has seen a lot of scrapes. Our PCD (Planning and Community Development) committee is working on a strategy to retain more of our neighborhood character. We would love your input on what you would like to preserve in Sunnyside! Here's a free event for those of you interested in the history of development in Globeville: Panel Speakers Brad Buchanan, Executive Director of Community Planning and Development, City and County of Denver Gretchen Hollrah, Executive Director, National Western Center William Sirois, Transit Oriented Communities Senior Manager, RTD Moderated by Ignacio Correa-Ortiz, AIA, AICP CUD, LEED AP, Senior Architect/Urban Designer, Regional Transportation District Program Description In 1948, the plans for the expansion of US Highway 85, later to become I-25, contemplated displacing Globeville Road and setting in motion a series of changes over the next 70 years that transfigured North Denver. Since the inception of the North Denver Cornerstone Collaborative by the Hancock administration in 2011, communities and agencies have recognized that the six projects are indeed catalysts of redevelopment. This panel will highlight the National Western Center redevelopment and the questions that rise regarding equity, connectivity and urban form.

Programming note: We skip Sippers next month and plan to see you all instead at Jazz in the Park on August 2nd.

Planning and zoning at your fingertips courtesy of Denver Community Planning and Development What are the site plans for a specific project? The site development plans map at denvergov.org/maps displays information about projects involving new construction that have received site development plan approval from the city. It does not include single-family and duplex projects.
Navajo Street Partners is hosting a mid-year week-long street clean up effort to beautify Sunnyside from June 25-29th. There will be garbage & recycling bags, gloves & vests housed at the Quigg Newton Community Center (look for a sign at the front desk) along with a map so folks can write their names on the streets they will be cleaning. Anytime during that week is fine. Can you please post this to the community? We are a mighty but small force and we’d love to see some of the neighborhood residents participate. Many thanks, Maureen
