Like many other of Denver's original neighbor...

Like many other of Denver's original neighborhoods, Sunnyside has seen a lot of scrapes. Our PCD (Planning and Community Development) committee is working on a strategy to retain more of our neighborhood character. We would love your input on what you would like to preserve in Sunnyside! Share your thoughts below!

The scraping of Denver: bye-bye bungalows; hello townhomes, duplexes and mansions (depending on neighborhood) - BusinessDen
On one stretch of West 13 th Street a block south of West Colfax Avenue, every street for 10 blocks has had at least one lot scraped and developed in the last three years. That puts the West Colfax neighborhood, where rows of townhomes are replacing 100-year-old bungalows, near the top for scrapes competing with hot spots in Sunnyside and East Wash Park.

I-70 construction could run overnight until 2023 under Denver staff recommendation
The construction company that is rebuilding Interstate 70 wants permission to run drills, excavators, dump trucks, bulldozers, cranes, jackhammers and generators at night for the next five years. The proposal drew immediate backlash from some neighborhoods around the highway, where people already worry about the noise, pollution and traffic that the project will bring.

Here's a free event for those of you interested in the history of development in Globeville: Panel Speakers Brad Buchanan, Executive Director of Community Planning and Development, City and County of Denver Gretchen Hollrah, Executive Director, National Western Center William Sirois, Transit Oriented Communities Senior Manager, RTD Moderated by Ignacio Correa-Ortiz, AIA, AICP CUD, LEED AP, Senior Architect/Urban Designer, Regional Transportation District Program Description In 1948, the plans for the expansion of US Highway 85, later to become I-25, contemplated displacing Globeville Road and setting in motion a series of changes over the next 70 years that transfigured North Denver. Since the inception of the North Denver Cornerstone Collaborative by the Hancock administration in 2011, communities and agencies have recognized that the six projects are indeed catalysts of redevelopment. This panel will highlight the National Western Center redevelopment and the questions that rise regarding equity, connectivity and urban form.

DID YOU KNOW that you can check to see if an item is recyclable by searching it on Denver's Wast Management website! https://www.denvergov.org/content/denvergov/en/trash-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-directory-dropoff-locations.html#

    Recycling Directory / Dropoff Locations
We have created an easy to use directory to help residents of the City and County of Denver learn where to recycle, compost, or dispose of various materials in Denver. Please note that while some of the drop-off centers may accept large quantities of materials, this information is intended primarily to facilitate the recycling of materials generated by households.

Navajo Street Partners is hosting a mid-year ...

Navajo Street Partners is hosting a mid-year week-long street clean up effort to beautify Sunnyside from June 25-29th. There will be garbage & recycling bags, gloves & vests housed at the Quigg Newton Community Center (look for a sign at the front desk) along with a map so folks can write their names on the streets they will be cleaning. Anytime during that week is fine. Can you please post this to the community? We are a mighty but small force and we’d love to see some of the neighborhood residents participate. Many thanks, Maureen
