National Preservation Month is an annual oppo...
National Preservation Month is an annual opportunity for everyone to celebrate what they love about preservation across the country and here in Denver. Historic places and buildings don't just capture the architecture of previous eras; they also root our communities in our shared history and help create a sense of place for newcomers and longtime residents alike. Everywhere in Denver there are spots with stories to tell. Denver's Landmark Preservation team wants help capturing these places and telling their stories. Throughout the final weeks of April and all of May, Denver residents are invited to share what places matter to them by taking pictures of their favorite historic places and buildings in Denver and share them online, using the materials linked below and the hashtag #ThisPlaceMattersDenver. The pictures can be of official local landmarks or of non-designated places that mean something to individuals or the community. Selected photos will be included in a display on preservation in Denver that will be up in the Webb Municipal Building during National Preservation Month.

DENVER PARKS ALCOHOL POLICY Denver Parks & Recreation's (DPR) alcohol policy was established in September 2007, and amended in May 2011, February 2012 and May 2012, resulting in the current policy which is overly-complicated and inconsistent. In an effort to simplify how rules and regulations are enforced at DPR facilities across the city, a revision to the DPR Alcohol Policy is being proposed and your feedback is wanted. Living on the Sunnyside of North Denver
Lewis K. Perin owned rich farmland from 44th to 48th, Federal to Zuni, where he worked as one of Colorado’s most successful farmers in 1875. He grew sugar beets, and had an orchard filled with grapes at what is today 4375 Clay Street.
The Universal, at 2911 W. 38th Ave., is known for serving "inventive" breakfasts and rotating grits specials.
For breakfast, locals often make their way to Sunny's, located at 2339 W. 44th Ave. The menu offers all the morning-food classics, as well as healthier and gluten-free options.
Besides food, Diz's Daisies is the perfect spot to find a creative flower arrangement for a loved one. Plus, 5280 Magazine picked the shop (at 2709 W. 38th Ave.) as among its "Top of the Town" list back in 2015.
Sub Rosa Mercantile, a unique "minimalistic" boutique at 2337 W. 44th Ave, is also a fun place to shop.
This article has 1 other Denver location (Show)The 41st & Fox station is located in the Globeville neighborhood near the easternmost border of Sunnyside, and will likely spur development nearby once it, and the G Line, open.

STREET SWEEPING STARTS APRIL 3RD!! Last year...
STREET SWEEPING STARTS APRIL 3RD!! Last year, Denver Public Works swept enough pollutants off the streets to fill Coors Field with a pile of dirt and debris stacked almost 12 feet high! Denver’s residential street sweeping season begins Tuesday, April 3, and Denver Public Works wants to remind residents that moving their vehicle on street sweeping day is an important step in helping keep debris out of our air and water! When residents move their vehicles, crews can sweep all the way to the curb line and provide the best service possible. Residents are urged to follow the red and white signs posted on the block for street sweeping parking restrictions to avoid getting a $50 ticket. Even if it appears a sweeper has cleaned the street, it’s still important to not park during the restricted times posted, as the sweeper may need to return to the area to make another pass. Helpful ways to remember street sweeping day: Denver residents can sign up for reminders through Pocketgov, the City’s mobile web application. After creating a simple user profile, residents can receive both email and text notifications. Call 311 to request “no parking” sticker reminders for a calendar. Last year, Denver Public Works Street Maintenance crews swept 148,466 lane miles and collected 62,330 cubic yards of dirt and debris. For more information on Denver’s street sweeping program, please visit denvergov.org/streetsweeping.

Thank you for taking our survey on how to make our Annual Meeting and Pizza Party even BETTER this year! If you haven't taken it yet, we will keep it up for the next couple of weeks to gather your feedback! A couple of comments showed interest in getting more long-time residents engaged. We would love to meet some more neighbors who have lived in Sunnyside for the past 30+ years. Unfortunately, many of them are not on Facebook or Nextdoor. Could YOU reach out to your older neighbors and personally invite them (better yet, offer to drive them) to our Annual Meeting and Pizza Party April 26th? We will have an image up soon with details that you could print off and stick in their mailbox, too ;-)
