SUNI hosts a variety of events to draw in members of different demographic groups, enjoys a strong relationship with our City Councilmember, and seeks to partner with other RNOs on various initiatives. Yet we are always looking for ways we can be stronger. Neighbor participation is always at the top of our list - connected neighbors = a strong neighborhood.

You asked: What makes some neighborhood organizations more effective than others? - Denverite
In addition to breaking news, we at Denverite love explaining how Denver works. One of the most effective ways to do that is to answer readers' questions. We've been asking Denverite members to help us test a new feature - the rest of you will be seeing it in a few weeks!

Genesee, the town along I-70 as you drive up ...

Genesee, the town along I-70 as you drive up to the mountains, has a history hike, complete with audio snippets about interesting points along the way. It got me thinking about the stories neighbors could tell about Sunnyside... 🤔 Are there any interviewers out there that would be interested in heading up a project collecting neighborhood stories? https://www.geneseefoundation.org/history-hike/

    Audible History Hikes
Situated on the north-facing slopes of Genesee Mountain, the Genesee Park ski jumping area was the site of national ski jumping competitions from 1921 to 1927. As many as four jumps are reported to have been built on the mountain. The longest jump was reported to be 2,000 feet long with a vertical drop of 700 feet.

I want to inform you of our next Pups on Patr...

I want to inform you of our next Pups on Patrol class, which is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at 6:00 p.m., here at District 1, located at 1311 W 46th Ave. The class will last less than an hour and you just need to bring yourself, leave your four-legged buddies at home. Please see the below added information below: The Denver Police Department – District 1, has launched a new program called Dog Walker Watch, we like to call it PUPS on PATROL. According to the Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA, there are more than 75 million dog owners across the nation. Dozens, if not hundreds, of neighbors are walking their dog throughout the community at all times of the day, all days of the week, in all weather conditions. The DPD District 1 program is modeled after the National Dog Walker Watch program that encourages neighbors to assist local law enforcement as extra eyes and ears while out walking their dog. The program enhances the partnership between police and community while providing resources so neighbors can be more aware and learn how to effectively observe and report suspicious activity. This is a great way for residents and their four-legged friends to help local law enforcement on their daily walks through the community. Participants in the Dog Walker Watch program are trained to identify suspicious behavior like seeing someone attempting to open car doors along neighborhood streets, someone trespassing behind building/houses or cars driving around with their lights off after dark and know they should make a call to 911 or our non-emergency line. To be included in the program, participants need to attend a training class that lasts less than an hour. The training class is designed to help increase awareness of suspicious behavior or activity and determine what should be reported to police. Dog guardians/owners who attend training (dogs can stay home) are presented with a certificate signed by Denver Police Chief Robert White, along with a special Honorary Denver Police K-9 neckerchief (please see the attached pictures) for their four-legged companion to wear as they “patrol” the neighborhood on their daily walks. If you would like to participate and attend the class, please simply respond to this email and PLEASE INCLUDE THE NAME(S) OF YOUR DOG(S), for their certificate. I look forward to hearing back from you.
