On Tuesday, July 10, a meeting was held at Graland Country Day School to inform neighbors of the planned construction by Denver Public Works to address persistent, nuisance flooding along Ellsworth Avenue between Colorado Boulevard and Birch Street in Hilltop.  DPW will be upgrading the existing storm infrastructure in the area beginning in late July/early August.  The project will begin at the intersection of Ellsworth & Colorado Blvd and continue east along Ellsworth to Birch St.  The project is anticipated to last approximately 4 months until the end of November, 2018.  While underway, Ellsworth Avenue will be closed in both directions for one block at a time beginning at Colorado Blvd and ending at Birch St.  Plan for alternative routes during the construction period.

Neighbors Spruce Up the Park

The tiny parkway between Dexter Street and Belo Horizonte (just off of Cranmer Park) got a little love and attention from members of the Cranmer Park/Hilltop Civic Association on Saturday morning, June 2.  Ken and Kay Malo came up with the suggestion for this service project and supplied the coffee and donuts.  We all came armed with a lawn tool and got to work right away clearing out dead branches and removing weeds.  Nearby neighbors lent us compost and trash bins and even joined us after seeing our efforts — great to meet new people and get a helping hand.   And our new best friend, Gil Salas, from Public Works, came by several times to pick up the debris and save us quite a bit of work hauling it away.

Denver Days 2018 takes place August 4-12

What is Denver Days??  Mayor Michael B. Hancock envisioned a city where neighbors not only knew their neighbors but as a result felt safer and more connected to the communities they call home. Five years ago the Mayor turned that vision into reality by creating Denver Days, a program during the first week of August that encourages neighbors to get to know their neighbors by hosting block parties, picnics, and service projects with the focus on small, organic gatherings.  Park Permits are free-of-charge to those holding a picnic or public event, both of which must be free and open to the public. Applications must be submitted 30 days prior to the event.  Denver Days events must abide by Denver Parks Rules and Regulations.
