School review Slavens K-8 School (3000 South Clayton Street)
Slavens K-8 School (3000 South Clayton Street) Comment
Our daughter started at Slavens in Kindergarten and is in 2nd grade now. The teachers overall are excellent and care about the students. My daughter has learned a lot and enjoys school. The parent organizations do a lot of fundraising, and it shows with extra para-professionals, everyday PE, a STEM lab, and other extras that aren't typical within other DPS schools. I have found some of the teachers, particularly the first grade split classroom teachers, to be very rigid, which made my slightly nervous child very anxious. The school implements a program called The Leader In Me, which teaches kids some great habits. I like that it's a K-8 so that kids are in one community through middle school. One major drawback is that the school has almost no diversity. I also can't imagine entering this school past kindergarten. I find the parents to be very cliquey, and it would be difficult to enter into that environment in the later elementary or middle school years.
