In Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean, January 6 is widely celebrated as Three Kings' Day. The holiday is part of the traditional Christian feast day of Epiphany and comes from the nativity story when the Three Wise Men brought gifts to the baby Jesus. For these wooden sculptures of the three kings made in Ecuador, the artist chose to use horses rather than the more regionally specific camels that are typically depicted. See these sculptures in person in Stampede: Animals in Art: http://bit.ly/2ikzPXW Image Credit: Unknown Artist, Three Kings on Horseback, 1700s. Painted and gessoed wood, silver and gold leaf, and fabric. Gift of the Stapleton Foundation of Latin American Colonial Art, made possible by the Renchard Family.

#Whiskeywednesday feat. Longrow Red 11 year Cabernet Sauvignon Casks: First distilled in 1973, Longrow is produced with a double distillation and heavily peated malt in an attempt to prove that it was possible to produce an Islay-style whisky on the mainland of Scotland. This rare dram hails from the Campbeltown region of Scotland and highlights a 100% peated single malt whisky. This heavily peated malt was first aged in ex-bourbon barrels for 7 years before it spent its last 4 years maturing in former cabernet sauvignon hogsheads. It is bottled at 104 proof. This truly unique and special whisky will make a great addition to any single malt library, specifically rounding out the limited reach of the Campbeltown portion of your collection. Although it is a limited release, you should also be able to find it at some of the most esoteric of whisky houses and bottle shops. @visitdenver @denverartmuseum #whiskywednesday #longrowred #springbank #campbeltown #denverbrewery #caskales #largestdistillerycollection #singlemaltwhisky

Happy New Year! This Artsy article shares how watching the ball drop as a crystal-covered ball became the symbol of a new year. Here’s to hoping your new year is filled with brightness. http://bit.ly/2Cj8zkD Note: As a friendly reminder, we are open today.

How a Crystal-Covered Ball Became a Symbol of the New Year
Certain things happen, like clockwork, at the stroke of midnight every New Year's Eve. Noisemakers blare; your glitter-coated party hat begins to shed; and an 11,875-pound ball covered in 2,688 Waterford Crystals descends down a flagpole in the middle of New York's Times Square.

Wishing you all a wonderful New Year's Eve as you reflect on 2017 and ring in 2018. Brooklyn-born artist Alex Katz witnessed this New York scene on New Year’s Eve in 1989. The city was shrouded in a rosy fog and an uncharacteristic stillness. Buildings seemed to disappear, leaving just a silhouette and a pattern of illuminated windows. For several weeks, Katz painted five or six impressions of the scene before the vision dimmed in his memory. We're open 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. How does art play a role in helping us discuss contemporary social issues? Find out at the Denver Art Museum's new program, Exchange. Come face-to-face with artworks that can help us explore the pressing questions we have about current events, lend your voice (or maybe even find it) as part of our unfolding conversation and leave with a whole new perspective on how the Denver Art Museum's collection and our community connect. Join the evening alongside comic Janae Burris, poet Jen Harris, Sarah Magnatta from the University of Denver, and Jim Walsh, founder of the Romero Theater Troupe. Join the conversation online in advance of the evening by using #DAMExchange and #DenverArtMuseum. Exchange is included in general admission. #Whiskeywednesday feat. Glen Garioch 12. Introduced to Glen Garioch's standard range in late 2010, this 12yo is a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, and like the other distillery bottlings since the revamp, has been bottled at a feisty 48%. A real charmer. According to the Whiskey Exchange: the nose is earthy, with stewed fruit. The palate is rich, mouthfilling, toasty oak, dried fruit, hint of mocha. The finish spicy and smooth. Well balanced. @visitdenver @denverartmuseum @dnvrbrewscruise @goldentriangleofdenver #singlemaltwhisky #Whiskeywednesday #glengarioch12 #highland #denverbrewpub #caskales #largestdistillerycollection
